United States Golf Association rules, modified by Local Rules below, govern play.
NOTE: These local rules are standard for all events. Additional rules, which are specific to the courses played, will be distributed prior to the play date.
DISTANCE MEASURING DEVICES may be used to measure distance only.
IMMOVABLE OBSTRUCTIONS CLOSE TO PUTTING GREEN: Relief is available only when the ball and the immovable obstruction lie in a closely mown area, the ball lies in the general area, and an immovable obstruction on or within two club-lengths of the putting green and within two club lengths of the ball intervenes on the line of play between the ball and the hole.
ABNORMAL COURSE CONDITION is any Animal Hole, Ground Under Repair, Immovable Obstruction, or Temporary Water. Ground Under Repair will be defined by white lines. Relief is obtained by finding the nearest point of complete relief (reference point), not nearer the hole, measuring one club-length.
EMBEDDED BALL: Relief is available for an embedded ball in the general area. Part of the ball must be below the level of the ground. The spot right behind where the ball is embedded is the reference point. Relief is measured one club-length from the reference point, no nearer the hole and must be in the general area.
PLAY TWO BALLS WHEN UNCERTAIN WHAT TO DO: Rule 20.1c(3). A player who is uncertain about the right procedure while playing a hole in stroke play may complete the hole with two balls. Before making a stroke, the player should choose which ball will count if the Rules allow the procedure, by announcing that choice to her marker or another player.
