In the fall of 1961, Marie Rauterberg of Bradenton Country Club, set the framework for what may be one of the longest running women’s golf associations in Florida, Mid-Gulf Women’s Golf Association. Marie’s vision was to bring together women golfers for competition and camaraderie and to have the pleasure of playing different golf courses in the Sarasota-Bradenton area. The following spring, the Association was formed with nine founding member clubs.
Currently, there are over 150 women participating from 15 member clubs. Tournaments are scheduled from November to April and the handicap index limit for membership is 26.4.
The tournament format is stroke play with players being divided into four classes. Points are awarded to players at each event who place in low gross and low net honors. Our season culminates in April. Based on points accumulated at each event, players are eligible to win the coveted Marie Rauterberg Founders Trophy, the Louise Evans Trophy or the Glo Schmidt Trophy. Additional prizes are awarded for Class winners.
Marie Rauterberg’s desire to bring women golfers together continues. We enjoy competitive golf and the hospitality of our member clubs while establishing new friendships.
